Sermon Discussion Questions
Read Hebrews 2:11-13 aloud.
Hebrews 2:11-13 (ESV):
“For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given me.””
Discussion Questions:
1. This morning we talked about our adoption as children of God. Pastor Jacob said: If your salvation is like adoption, Jesus’ death was like the signing of the adoption papers.
How do you connect with this idea? What about being adopted into God’s family stands out to you?
2. Read these 3 verses:
If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has passed away, behold the new has come” (2 Cor. 5:17).
1 John 3:1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
John 1:12 (ESV): 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God
How does this new identity form the way you think about yourself? (Or how should it?)
How does it impact the way you relate to God as father?
3. Is the idea of Jesus unashamedly calling us brothers a foreign concept?
What are the implications of this?
4. There are many ways in which the story of Joseph and his brothers was a foreshadowing of Jesus in the Old Testament. Did any of the similarities catch your attention?
5. What was your main takeaway from this passage/message?
