A unique missional effort, fueled by the Word of God and Prayer.
For decades, many on the North Shore had been praying for God to do big things with the small church strategically positioned in the middle of surfing’s Seven Mile Miracle. In Summer of 2020, in the wake of the pandemic, we began to see the fruit of those prayers.
In summer of 2020, with a new young pastor and a few friends, SBCC re-launched and began to see rapid growth as God brought a community together. Today, the ministry has a majority of young adults (18-30yrs)––an otherwise notoriously difficult demographic to reach.
For being such a magnet for young people, Sunset is NOT the flashy, trendy church you might expect. They teach straight from the scriptures, have simple outdoor worship gatherings, and are relentlessly focused on helping ordinary people become disciples of Jesus who will make disciples of Jesus in everyday life.
Some ministry highlights:
Over 50 baptisms in 2023 alone, with around that many thus far in 2024.
Launched a 10 week discipleship school at the end of 2023 that has equipped students from all over the country.
Released an album of original worship music under the moniker Sunset Beach Worship.
Sustains a weekly homeless outreach ministry that has seen numerous people transition off the streets and into housing and jobs.
Regularly hosts full-time pastors and missionaries from around the world in guest rooms free of charge.
Weekly homeschool co-op with dozens of kids from the community.
Dinner Groups ministry in homes spread across the North Shore and Central O’ahu.
Due to the demographic of our church, funds are naturally limited. Scroll below to partner with us on key projects that will help us to be good stewards of all God has entrusted to us.
Staff housing renovation.
Our housing on property is what enables us to hire and retain great staff members to sustain the various areas of our ministry. This building (originally built in the 1950’s and transported here from a military base that same decade) is home to several of our key staff, and also contains a guest room that we use to house pastors and missionaries from around the world on a continuous basis. We are in the process of re-siding this building, replacing all necessary studs and beams, and reconfiguring some of the interior to make more sense as staff housing.
The total project is currently quoted at $121,429.60

Septic Tank for staff housing
Our staff housing is running on an out of date cesspool system that legally must be replaced. Moreover, it is sinking into the ground at a rapid rate, which will eventually cause broken pipes and an emergency.
Exact proposal available soon, but estimates are looking to be around $38k-$40k.
Fix the Air Conditioning for our Chapel!
Living in the tropics is fun but hot. When we have an indoor event in our beloved chapel (such as worship nights, midweeks services, and youth events), it can get pretty uncomfortable! Help us remove a practical obstacle in people’s ability to worship and hear the Word!
Estimates coming soon.
Community Kitchen Remodel
Perhaps the most used space on our campus, our kitchen is used daily by our 12 discipleship students, our 4 interns, and various other ministries.
Our vision is to have a commercial grade kitchen where we can cook for large groups and keep things appropriately sanitary.
